I want to take this time to officially welcome Behind These Hands new Massage Therapist, Jessica Bart!  Jessica’s husband works with my dad and our paths crossed with perfect timing for her to join the team.  The past three weeks she has been giving awesome massages from the heart, proving that she is truly passionate as a bodyworker and going above and beyond to help me out. As of now, Jess is working Wednesdays and Thursdays. I am so grateful for her, she is the answer to my prayers. Now I am able to grow the business, continue to give my massages 100%, and guide yoga! Thank you for trusting me, that I would only bring quality to the table!

Speaking of yoga…so many of you have been extremely patient (and persistent), with me about when I will start holding yoga classes. The plan was to announce the schedule in this newsletter, but with the current transition at the Healing Center, I’m finding I need to take it week by week. There is a pretty full list of you that I have contacted via the classes this week,  if you are not on the list and NEED to be, give me a call. The goal is to get a consistent and regular class schedule. If you are interested in private sessions, or small group classes please feel free to ask and we can work out a time. Thank you for your continued patience! This is such an incredible opportunity, allowing me to shine the gifts God has blessed me with in so many ways. Change can be terrifying, but necessary for growth; let’s embrace it!

In the meantime, Jenny Bertrand has been consistently teaching Essentrics at The Healing Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-1pm. Jess and I have been joining in and really feel the benefits! It is a unique fusion exercise with a variety of techniques and movement that are immediately effective.  Jenny is also a tremendous blessing/bonus to the team, keeping me motivated and inspired!  Try it out, and bring a friend…first session is free!

Renting the space out is something that is proving to be more popular than expected. It is enjoyable to share this beautiful place I get to call work with so many! We have been hosting a monthly Reiki Share, lead by Lisa Guyman, the teacher that Abby and I were certified under. This is a powerful energy as 10-20 Reiki Practitioners come in and we practice Reiki all together. This time has allowed connections to be made and our Reiki practices are kept fresh and growing.

There is a possibility to bring on a tai chi/qi gong instructor. He gave Jess and I a demo class and it was a really nice introduction. He mentioned he would offer a free class if we have enough interest. This would be great for people who are just getting back into their movements and wanting to learn more about this approach to bodywork. He would also offer a 3 hour introduction course on a monthly basis. This sparks my interest, as I feel many of you, myself included, would benefit from this practice.

Your thoughts, concerns and ideas are all welcome with an open mind. Some of you have given me brilliant suggestions including a “buffet” type session.  You pick from massage, yoga, reiki, meditation etc. and combine several or all into a 2 hour visit. I have been exploring/practicing  this idea, it’s going well, perfect if you are wanting to experiment with your healing journey.

Please contact me anytime if you would like to discuss the expansion of Behind These Hands Healing Center.

My deepest gratitude to those who have participated/donated in Abby’s Army. The benefit was FUN and a huge success! As far as I know, we have raised over $25,000 and climbing! Abby was able to go home 19 days after her bone marrow transplant and she is still cancer free! Fortunately, Abby is one of the strongest people I know and is still battling every second of everyday to rebuild her life. She is a true warrior of strength and grace. Her journey has already impacted people, some of whom she doesn’t even know. Whenever Abby comes back to share her gifts at The Healing Center, they will be from profound understanding and experience. Kari, Abby’s mom keeps an updated journal of Abbys progress here. Thank you for your constant prayers and concerns, they are significant.

Behind These Hands Healing Center: Healing, Growth & Expansion

Yoga Studio 2
Refreshing is the word that comes to mind when describing the place that I am blessed and proud to call Behind These Hands Healing Center. The past year has been one of personal and professional healing, growth and expansion. Everyday I witness the true blessings and opportunity that this space has the potential for. I am filled with gratitude and desire to express that fully in the comfort and safety of the Healing Center. Guidance and clarity have been my prayer and God is continually providing. Just the other day the landlord of the building caught me getting off of the elevator with the usual basket of laundry. After he pointed out that I “always have laundry” he asked if I would like him to put a washer and dryer in the basement of the building! Ummm, yes please!  For those of you who don’t know, my dad has worked in the same building, on the same floor, for my whole life…I found this place on craigslist! It has been such a smooth transition to the new office, as it’s only four blocks from the old location, another huge blessing. There has been an abundant amount of donations, gifts, and time put into this growth and expansion so that all who enter may go through a healing journey of their own.
My dear friend Abby, has been going through a significant time in her healing journey. Her focus has been on destroying her immune system and washing if free of cancer. We are deeply grateful to say that God has answered and she is currently cancer free! After the much needed break the holidays bring, Abby’s now shifting her focus to rebuild and rejuvenate. She will be having a bone marrow transplant in early Janurary, putting her on the road to the next chapter of her life. As much as this has truly been a difficult and painful time for Abby, her family and friends…there have also been countless blessings that are now able to shine! Abby’s cancer was the key to both she and I encountering the power of Reiki (Divine Force/Spiritual Eenergy), which I hace been fortunate to share with so many people, including other cancer patients/survivors. Abby will be able to connect with people in a way now that she couldn’t have done before she went through the pain of cancer, chemo, radiation, MRIs, living in a hospital. Nothing makes my heart happier than to vision her back at the Healing Center when she is ready, sharing the experiences and healing gift God has blessed her with.  If you would like to learn more about Abby’s journey, visit this site.  Also, Abby’s Army is hosting another benefit to help out with the crazy expensive hospital bills as well as celebrate her healing! The benefit will be held on Saturday, February 1st at The Temple Event Center (Colfax and Pearl).  Beautiful building, guest MC, live music, comedy, silent auction, hourly raffles, food, dancing and drink! This is going to be an EPIC event for an incredible cause! We are working on getting donations and the goal is for all profits to go to Luke and Abby. If you have ideas, donations, input please contact us, get on our Facebook page and/or come to our next planning party at the Healing Center on Saturday, January 4th @ 4pm.  In the meantime, there will be a site in place to donate money directly to Abby, and you can donate cash or check at the Healing Center if you feel it on your heart to do so. We welcome and appreciate all forms of support and are so thankful for the prayers and abundance.
While Abby is centered on her personal healing, the growth of Behind These Hands Healing Center is ready to launch! Erin Young, another solid friend I’ve had for years will be joining us! Erin is a top notch massage therapist and is also attending Metro State for Human Nutrition and Dietetics. This January, she is transitioning her location along with her clientele to rent out the other treatment room a couple days a week. She will be doing massages as well as offering nutritional counseling and other related workshops/classes. See Erin’s profile here.  To have Erin working with me is an answer to my prayers. I know her clients will feel her passion for health and massage on an even deeper level at The Healing Center and I look forward to the space being used for its purpose. The gratitude for Erin and all of the people placed in my life is immense.
Another wonderful woman who has been brought to the Healing Center is Jenny Bertrand.  Jenny is changing career paths from a 9-5 desk job and following her passion as an Eccentrics teacher. This was the first I heard of Eccentrics but I was intrigued and praying for direction on more ways to use the space. She contacted me through a mutal friend and I was introduced to Eccentrics and Jenny. I immediatly liked her personalilty and the class she taught me was a perfect combination of insightful body techniques.  I encourage you to read more about Jenny and Eccentrics here. January will be the start of her classes  a couple of days a weeks and we are proud to have her using the space.  It is such an honor to witness and experience the growth and the wonders of what she has to bring to the table.
The vision of this beautiful Healing Center is constantly growing and expanding.  I want to make sure the word is out there for the space to be held and offering techniques for all. One of the new addtions I’m so stoked about is the room for Yoga. September and October I was doing a full schedule of massage sessions and teaching yoga. While the yoga classes I guided were powerful and inspiring, I found that this schedule wasn’t working for me. The solution is for me to hire another massage therapist to work on my guests two days a week. On these days I will be at the center, there to greet you and make sure I still get to see you, getting business work done and on those days I will get to teach yoga! Interviews have started and I promise to choose someone who is being held to the highest standards. If you have any leads, please have them contact me. I will also be posting an ad to assist the search.  In the meantime, I am also scouting for guest yoga teachers. Already in line,  is one fantastic guest teacher from California on Saturday February 9th at 4:30. This class will be a 90 minute yoga class with the theme of LOVE <3. There are  ten spots are available, sign up now! If you or someone you know might be interested in teaching classes, please send them this way.  My plan is to have a steady yoga schedule and mingle it with massages, guided meditations, and breath workshops. In February, a couples massage eduaction class to teach you how to work problem areas on each other properly. Other RMTs will be there to assist! Also a great Valentine’s gift for your partner.
Your patience is deeply appreciated with this overdue information packed newsletter. Being in the larger space of the Healing Center has me feeling the need to explore time managment and make media communication a priority!  Our annual Holiday Sale has been successful and is still in effect until the end of the year. Call now if you want to participate and/or purchase your next massage package before the prices raise on January 1st, 2014.  It has been two years at the current prices and I aim to make the transition smooth. I have also added a 5-pack to the mix. You can see the new rates and packages here. Thank you for supporting this business, my vision and encourging me to keep improving, healing, expanding and growing. Thank you for coming in to see me, trusting me, bragging about my work, and affirming that this is what I’m meant to do. Thank you for being on time, taking your shoes off in the lobby and leaving your kids at home 😉 Team work makes the dream work,  cheers to a new year!
